Real Life Case Study : East Thames were so helpful with my lease extension

Geoffrey Cordell, 63, who works in international development, had been living in Suffolk for many years but was keen to relocate to London. He wanted to find a property which had been well looked after and was secure as he travels regularly with work.

Geoffrey explains, "I had been living in Suffolk for many years but realised that relocating to London would give me more opportunities for work. After looking at several properties I came across a second hand property through East Thames. It was well presented and in East London which was an area I was keen to live in. It was also extremely accessible to all the major airports and future links with Cross Rail. Although the property was Shared Ownership, the previous owner had staircased to !00% so I was able to buy the full value of the property.

"East Thames were so helpful throughout the whole process. The property only had 75 years left on the lease so I was keen to extend the lease to add security and value to the property.

"The team at East Thames, in particular Danielle, put me in touch with solicitors and guided me through the whole process. It was fairly straight forward and East Thames continued to chase things for me to ensure it didn't get delayed. I would definitely recommend them as they gave me a first class service. All in all it cost me around £10,000."

Geoffrey loves the fact of living in East London. He continues, "I feel like the power is shifting east in London. There is so much to do and with improved rail links and the transport hub at Stratford, the area is going to keep getting better and better. Forest Gate is a real up and coming area and I feel like I have got in at the start of something exciting."

Geoffrey purchased his one bedroom property for cash at £230,000. His monthly service charges are £160 a month.
